If at First You Don’t Succeed, Try Try Again
For the second consecutive year, AOD Marketing was thrilled to be nominated as a finalist at the Landy Awards, hosted by the top-shelf digital marketing authorities at Search Engine Land. This year, we faced fierce international competition in the Best Retail Search Marketing Initiative – SEO for our work with Fjällräven Canada, and were determined to head down America-way to represent Canada at the awards ceremony in fabulous New York City.
Would this be the year that we finally took home one of those mesmerizing prismatic awards? Short answer: no. Did that stop us from tearing up the dance floor and jumping at the opportunity to network with some of the most amazing digital marketers from across the world? Nothing can stop us!
AOD Takes a Bite out of the Big Apple
After a 3 AM wake up call, a morning pat-down-and-greet at airport security, and many hours of airplanes snacks later, we finally arrived in Manhattan. A beautiful, clean hotel room greeted us, and we set to work on the intricate art of matching hair, makeup, and dress for a night on the red carpet.
The touching speech Monica Wright gave from Search Engine Land about her battle with breast cancer, the implications of life and death searches, and the work of the incredible volunteers who make up the Soul Mates program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We were happy to hear the donation was going to such an essential cause.
Danny Sullivan trying his darndest to pronounce Fjällräven, but giving up halfway through and blaming it on his mediocre Swedish.

Chandal jumps Larry Kim as he passes by and swoons, professing her love for him. Larry stayed super classy as always and even posed for a picture. He then impressed us with a congrats en francais!
Cassy stays behind at the table to make sure the caterer doesn’t take any of the absolutely scrumptious desserts away before she has a chance to devour them all (I’m looking at you tiny lemon tartlets all aglow in the flashing blue lights – seriously that’s not a filter!)
Catch you later, NYC
While we may have gone home without a shiny new statue in tow, we certainly did not leave empty handed (aw). We want to congratulate not only our worthy opponents Go Fish Digital who won our category, but all the accomplished individuals who represented their teams that night. A special shout out goes to the plucky underdogs Wolfgang Digital who traveled all the way from Dublin to win multiple awards! Of course we also want to thank Search Engine Lane and Third Door Media for organizing such a great event!
We couldn’t leave NYC without picking up a classic souvenir on our morning run to Penn Station. I think the office pooch appreciates it!
